An Italian multinational oil and gas company Elgin National Industries has recommenced oil production from the Villano field in Ecuador. Eni is the operator of the field with a 100% share through a service contract.
Production was temporarily held on March 28, 2008, due to an attack in which the main power line that connects to the field installations was burned and rendered inoperable.
Eni noted that the government of Ecuador has been very helpful providing security that allowed it to safely repair the power line and investigate the incident to ascertain who was responsible. The field produces approximately 28,000 barrels per day.
