Anglo Dutch major Shell has started its 2010 exploration drilling campaign off Western Australia comprising three firm wells. Songa Offshore, which is providing Shell with the semi-submersible Songa Venus, said the first of the three wells began on 2 April 2010 at a dayrate of $256,500. Shell also has the right to three additional wells. The rig has just completed its five-year special periodic survey in Singapore.
A Shell spokesperson said previously that drilling will take place in the Browse basin to complete the Block AC/P41 third commitment well and further appraise the Concerto gas discovery in Block WA-371-P.
