Varyeganneftegaz, a TNK-BP unit, has finished drilling 10 wells in the Verkhnekolik-Yeganskoye field, the company has reported. The wells are providing a flow of 35 tons of crude per day each. Hydrodynamic modelling identified residual reserves in lower Jurassic layers (YuV 8-9-10) where successful drilling had been conducted before.
The company reports that drilling in Verkhnekolik-Yeganskoye is progressing according to plans. Increasing the number of exploratory wells will enable Varyeganneftegaz to raise its volume of crude production and fulfil its 2010 production contract.
The Verkhnekolik-Yeganskoye field has been under development since 1990. Studies have shown that the field's further success will depend on intense drilling in seams that have not yet been touched. As of January 1, 2010, the field had produced 29.15 million tons of crude since development began in 1990.
