Gazprom Neft opens alternative refuelling complex at Sheremetyevo

Gazprom Neft has completed construction of an alternative refuelling complex at Sheremetyevo International Airport.

The alternative complex is a part of the airport’s fuel supply system and will be used to receive, store and supply aviation fuel to aircraft at Sheremetyevo. Equipment of the refuelling complex is fully automated and complies with Russian and international standards for aviation fuel supplies. The storage facilities, comprising 4 tanks with a total capacity of approximately 18,000 m3, are designed considering future airport expansion plans and can be boosted to a total capacity of 25,000 m3. In addition to the storage facilities, the refuelling complex also includes loading points with a total capacity of 6,000 m3 per day and 6 modern fuel trucks. In the future, the complex will also include a modern laboratory housing equipment for physical and chemical fuel analysis in accordance with Russian (GOST) and international (ASTM) standards. Gazprom Neft will use one of its own refineries, the Moscow refinery, to supply aviation fuel to the refuelling complex.

In 2008, Gazpromneft Aero, which sells aviation fuel produced by Gazprom Neft refineries, registered a subsidiary: Gazpromneft Aero Sheremetyevo. Implementation of the investment project to build an alternative refuelling complex at the airport began in 2009. Licences required to commission the complex and begin operations are currently being acquired.

At the opening ceremony, Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of Gazprom Neft Management Board, stated that “A refuelling complex at one of Moscow Air Hub’s largest airports allows Gazprom Neft to ensure smooth aviation fuel supplies and encourages competition in this area. By opening an alternative refuelling complex at Sheremetyevo, the company has contributed to the state programme to de-monopolise the Russian aviation fuel market”.

REFERENCE:

In September 2008, Gazprom Neft and OAO Sheremetyevo International Airport signed a General Agreement for cooperation in air transportation and aviation fuel supplies which stipulated the construction of a new refuelling complex at the airport. Construction of Gazprom Neft’s alternative refuelling complex began in 2009.

Gazpromneft Aero is a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft which provides aircraft refuelling and underwing refuelling services. Gazpromneft Aero has been a strategic aviation fuel supply partner of the IATA since December 2008.

Gazpromneft Aero leads the Russian aviation fuel supply market and has its own network of refuelling complexes. Gazpromneft Aero sells more retail aviation fuel than any other aviation fuel chain in Russia.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is a major Russian airport operating international flights. The airport is 100% state-owned and handles flights to and from over 200 destinations. In 2011, Sheremetyevo’s total passenger traffic was 22.555 million people, an increase of 16.7% year-on-year. The airport is in the top three Eastern European airports by quality of service according to an annual rating compiled by Skytrax Research (UK).
