Shell Nets Oil Drilling Contract in Tunisia

Shell Tunisia has won an oil drilling contract in the central region of the north African country, a Tunisian official said.

Following a meeting with Mounir Bouziz, chairman of Shell in the Middle East and North Africa, the Tunisian industry minister Mohamed Lamine Chakhari said that Shell Tunisia will drill four oil wells starting early next year, with a total cost of USD 150 million.

He also said that Tunisia and Shell are set to sign a deal for the exploitation prospects and the exploration license in the region of Kairouan.

The four wells are scheduled to be drilled in Kairouan, Souss, El Jem, and North Sfax, which will be identified after the prospecting operations. Bouziz also said that Shell will be using innovative drilling techniques, which is the first such application in the region.
