Australia-listed Gas2Grid confirmed in a statement Tuesday that its Gumamela-1 exploration well, sited in its wholly-owned Service Contract 44, onshore Cebu, bears no sign of significant hydrocarbons.
The company added that it has decided to plug and abandon Gumamela-1, after having drilled the well to a depth of 3,450 feet to within a dominantly claystone and siltstone with minor sandstone Oligocence age formation immediately below the Cebu Limestone. Gas2Grid is at present preparing to set cement plugs in the well.
In 2011, workover operations in the well were suspended when "junk" was encountered at the bottom of the well.
"We know that there are hydrocarbons in [Malolos-1]. Drilling in the well was however obstructed due to metals present in the well since 1960," a spokesperson representing Gas2Grid told Rigzone.
Rig-1, the drilling rig for Malolos-1, is on Tuesday being prepared to mill out the "junk" in the hole. Oil and gas have been circulated out of the hole during current operations.
