GridPoint Dynamics representatives presented a report at the Geostats 2016 International Congress in Valencia

“Comparative analysis of geostatistical methods for a field with a large number of wells” report was presented by Ye. V. Kovalevsky, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Chief Expert, GPD, at the 10th “Geostats 2016” International Geostatistical Congress, which took place on September 5-9, 2016, in Valencia, Spain.

Co-authors of the report are M. S. Volkova and M. V. Perepechlin, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

In his presentation Ye. V. Kovalevsky has considered the problem of interpolation of well data on oil and gas reservoir properties. Its main difficulty is that the result has to correspond not only to specific well data, but also to some additional criteria, such as variograms and histograms. Generally, the result should correspond to our knowledge of processes of geological environment formation.

Authors focused on the possibilities, which, in this context, are provided by various stochastic methods: Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS), Multipoint Geostatistics Method (MPS), implementation of a fuzzy model.

For your note. The “Geostats” International Geostatistical Congress is the largest scientific conference conducted once in four years. In 2016 experts from over 30 countries participated in it. Over five days 220 plenary papers were aired and about 70 poster presentations were made.

Speakers included representatives of world’s major oil and gas companies – Shell, Chevron, Total, Repsol, etc., experts of research centers and national geological services from Norway, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Canada, Portugal, scientists and professors of leading universities from USA, Denmark, Australia, Iran and other countries.

The main topics of the Congress were the problems of geological modeling. The majority of the reports were dedicated to modeling of oil and gas reservoirs and ore deposit modeling. Also, reports dealt with hydrogeology, engineering geology, environment protection, meteorology and other special topics.
