Lukoil's cumulative production of oil in Russia has exceeded 2 billion tonnes, the company reported on February 1, 2018.
The company's Russian projects produced jointly no less than 80 million tonnes of oil annually in the past 14 years.
The 1st billion tonnes of oil was produced by Lukoil in 2006, fifteen years after the establishment of the company. The milestone of 2 billion tonnes was reached eleven years later.
The uptick in production can be attributed to the recent commissioning of major oil fields, including Vladimir Filanovsky field in the Caspian Sea, Pyakyakhinskoye field on Yamal, and Imilorskoye field in West Siberia.
New technologies have made it possible to significantly increase production of difficult hydrocarbons, for instance at Yarega field of super-viscous oil in the Komi Republic.
