Shell will start supplying Singapore with LNG this year

Shell and Pavilion Gas will start delivering liquefied natural gas to Singapore later this year, said the city-state’s trade minister on February 14, 2017.

The 2 companies were awarded contracts in October 2016, joining BG Singapore Gas Marketing as approved LNG importers.

The contracts will last for 3 years or until their shipments reach 1 million tonnes a year, Reuters reported.

Singapore is moving to import LNG as contracts for natural gas supplied from Malaysia and Indonesia will expire in the early 2020s, the report said.

BG Singapore Gas Marketing became part of Shell when BG Group merged with the Anglo-Dutch oil major.

The new contract is for Shell’s Eastern Petroleum subsidiary.

Pavilion Gas is part of Singapore-based Pavilion Energy.
