Azule Energy and Block 15/06 Partners Celebrate Naming Ceremony for the Agogo FPSO

Moscow, February 20 - Neftegaz.RU. The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), Azule Energy, and the partners of Block 15/06 - Sonangol Exploration and Production, Sinopec, and NAMCOR - celebrated today, in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, the Naming Ceremony of the Agogo FPSO. The event marks a strategic advancement for Angola's energy sector, aimed at enhancing the country’s oil production capacity with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

The Agogo FPSO is part of the Agogo Integrated West Hub Project that aims to develop the two most important discoveries in Block 15/06, the fields of Agogo and Ndungu, which will significantly increase the production of the block.

The project also supports national economic growth, strengthens Angolan technical capabilities, and reinforces local value, aligning with the government’s priorities for socioeconomic development.

The FPSO is scheduled to start operations by the end of 2025, more than six months before the FID startup date.

The Agogo FPSO stands out for its cutting-edge low-carbon integrated solutions, positioning Angola as a benchmark for sustainable energy projects.
The key energy efficiency initiatives developed include:

• Combined Cycle Power Generation: One of the first units ever installed onboard an FPSO, capable of significantly reducing overall emissions and minimising the environmental footprint;
• Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): The world’s first CCS unit on an FPSO, capable of reducing post-combustion emissions;
• Energy Efficiency Systems: Advanced electrification, digital automation, and a seawater-driven turbine generator;
• Emission Management: A vapour recovery unit and closed flaring philosophy implemented to eliminate routine flaring.

These technologies will significantly reduce the project’s environmental footprint, aligning with goals for energy transition and diversification of the national energy mix.

José Alexandre Barroso, State Secretary for Petroleum and Gas, highlighted that:

• the Agogo Integrated Project reflects Angola's strategic vision for partnerships that prioritise technology transfer, local content development, and environmental management;
• critical components of this project were manufactured in Angolan shipyards - a concrete demonstration of our commitment to strengthening the local industry and promoting self-sufficiency.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Angolan Government, ANPG, members of the Angolan diplomatic corps in China, Block 15/06 Partners, Azule Shareholders, and Contractors.
The initiative marks the multinational collaboration of all involved parties in supporting the sector's development, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas for industry development and the associated energy transition.
