ExxonMobil makes history in Guyana as Liza Destiny FPSO produces 1st oil

Irving (Texas), December 24 - Neftegaz.RU. The U.S. oil major ExxonMobil has made history as it has started producing first oil from its Liza field offshore Guyana, making the Latin American country an oil-producing nation.

ExxonMobil made the 1st oil announcement on December 20, saying that that oil production started from the Liza field ahead of schedule and less than five years after the 1st discovery of hydrocarbons, “well ahead of the industry average for deepwater developments.”

Production from the 1st phase of the Liza field, located in the Stabroek Block, is expected to reach full capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day in coming months, and the 1st cargo is set to be sold within several weeks, ExxonMobil said.

According to ExxonMobil, around 1,700 of ExxonMobil’s employees and other workers supporting its activities in Guyana are Guyanese – more than 50 % of the total workforce.

“This number will continue to grow as additional operations progress. ExxonMobil and its direct contractors have spent approximately $180 million with more than 630 local suppliers since the 1st discovery in 2015,” ExxonMobil said.
